140+ Estheticians Raved About Solawave’s New Skincare Line, So I Couldn’t Resist Trying It Out

I’ve been a Solawave fan for a long time…

To the point where I’m the friend in the group chat trying to make “Solawaving” a verb. I’ve been reaping the benefits and putting people on to Solawave’s bestselling red light skincare wand for years, but when I saw they were putting out their very own skincare line called Solabiome, I had mixed thoughts. They are a skincare device brand, after all… could they make good topical products too?

As someone with extremely sensitive skin, it took me a while to find a skincare routine that I liked and that didn’t irritate my skin… so as curious as I was about Solabiome, I was hesitant to change up my routine.

Then I saw something on Instagram that really caught my attention: Solawave’s new skincare line has been vetted by more than 140+ estheticians, and the reviews are raving. I knew all of Solawave’s products go through rigorous testing to make sure they’re the best of the best… but over 140 estheticians for a skincare line seemed wild.

They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, so I figured I would give Solabiome a shot. It’s hard to ignore that many skincare professionals…

Editor’s Note: Solawave’s Black Friday Sale is back. From now until they sell out (which they did in 72 hours last year), buy any item and get a second item of equal or lesser value for free.

Solawave: Home of the “Holy Grail of Skincare Devices

The brand’s claim to fame is their 4-in-1, red light therapy wand, which has been lauded by dozens of press outlets and celebrity makeup artists, stacked up awards, and praised by hundreds of thousands of happy customers (including yours truly). The wand works to help smooth fine lines and reduce the appearance of puffiness and redness, boosts the benefits of other skincare products, and gives you that celeb-obsessed Solawave glow. Personally, I’d say that my wand has made my skin look brighter, tighter, and more hydrated, and my favorite part: it’s even helped define my jawline.

Since 2020, the brand has dropped a couple of new products like their Bye Acne device and even a full face red and blue light therapy mask, but their latest product has been years in the making: a full 4-step skincare regimen called Solabiome.

The Ins and Outs of Solabiome

What really drew me in to Solabiome (apart from the fact that it expands my Solawave-inspired skincare vocabulary) is that it talks about skincare in a way I’ve never seen before. I know how important your gut microbiome is, but I’d never heard the term “skin microbiome.”

Just like it’s important to keep the microbes in your gut in check for whole-body health, Solabiome targets and strengthens the microbiota on your skin, for a more comprehensive skincare wellness. (Apparently, many other skincare products actually strip away at the skin’s microbiome.)

All four products in the Solabiome line are made with a blend of pre- and probiotics that work to help bring the skin back to its healthy, hydrated, and thriving baseline:

  • Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate: a powerful probiotic with a regulating effect on the immune system.
  • Beta-Glucan: a prebiotic derived from mushrooms that soothes, nourishes, and boosts moisture.
  • Sparassis Crispa Extract: from the superstar “Cauliflower mushroom,” prepares the skin to retain as much moisture as possible.

I still didn’t fully understand how it all worked… but I had to admit, it sounded pretty awesome. On top of that, it made sense. Our skin is the body’s largest organ, and after growing up with the skin I had, it wasn’t hard to intuit that it has a life of its own.

The Solabiome Routine

Every Solabiome product is “profoundly clean,” vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. A good start for someone with skin as sensitive as mine. After diving into the products themselves, it was cool to see a nice marriage of nourishing plant-based ingredients and the latest in cutting-edge skin science. (But more specifics on that later.)

Each of the four products in the Solabiome line were also tested in a clinical study of 50 women ages 18-65, and the results are pretty compelling. That data, combined with the raving esthetician reviews and even better customer reviews got me to order one of each product.

That said, it was refreshing to see how Solawave’s website says “Easily integrate any of the Solabiome products into your existing routine…or hit the reset button and commit to all four steps.” That means they’re not trying to push unnecessary products on you—just the ones that fit your routine.

I was beyond excited to test them out, but I was still a little nervous due to my skin sensitivity. I decided the best way to do it would be to add in just one Solabiome product to my normal routine for a week or so, and see how it did before moving on to the next. Here’s what happened:

Step One: Hydrating Gel Cleanser

This Hydrating Gel Cleanser is where it all starts, so it was the easiest for me to start with as well. It’s supposed to prep your skin for peak product absorption with a soothing, hydrating foam that gently sweeps away makeup, oil, and environmental stressors (without stripping the delicate microbiome).

BeautyTap Expert Review: “It is hard to find a cleanser that I feel confident to use on all skin types. Solabiome’s Hydrating Gel Cleanser is gentle enough to use on those who experience hypersensitivity without irritation, but potent enough to cleanse a full face of makeup without drying up the skin.” —Winchelle

My Experience: I felt good about trying it thanks to Winchelle’s comment about hypersensitivity. At first, I really loved how it felt almost like soft jelly… but lathered on like foam. And it really lives up to its name—it did a phenomenal job of removing dirt and lingering makeup from my skin without leaving it dry and irritated. It’s difficult to find cleansers for sensitive skin that actually deep cleanse, but this one did all that and then some.

Step Two: Refreshing Jelly Mist

After the cleanser passed the sensitive test, I moved on to the Refreshing Jelly Mist. It’s a spritzable toner that hydrates and protects the skin from free radicals. Pro Vitamin B5, a surface-softening nutrient, helps prep the skin for a serum or moisturizer, while Gota Kula and Vitamin E hydrate and protect. It absorbs right away and is supposed to be used right after a cleanser, and before a serum or moisturizer.

BeautyTap Expert Review: “I’m not really a toner type of person but this is a product you never knew you needed. At first I thought it would be more on the stickier side because it’s jelly based, but I was wrong. I love how lightweight it is and the nice scent, nothing overbearing like other toners. I use it like 4 times a day because it makes my skin feel so good and clean.” —Alisha

My Experience: It’s still unclear to me how this toner comes in the form of jelly, because it sprays out so light, delicate, and refreshing. It leaves my skin feeling moist without feeling like a layer of “stuff,” and I started to notice my skin was extra soft when I woke up in the morning… so it was definitely doing its job of toning my skin for my usual serum. In my mind, it’s everything a toning mist should be: light, hydrating, and toning. I’m definitely keeping this in my routine.

Step Three: Plumping Peptide Serum

I was reluctant to switch out my normal serum, but I was really excited to see how the Plumping Peptide Serum felt after loving the first two products. The serum is lightweight and layerable, and it calms the skin on contact while Solabiome’s pre- and probiotics start to reveal a more radiant complexion. The hyper-hydrating hyaluronic acid and plumping avocado peptides work to rejuvenate the skin from below the surface.

BeautyTap Expert Review: “I’ve tried many serums and by far this one is my absolute favorite. I love how plump this made my skin look. I’ve always struggled with dehydrated looking skin, which totally ages you. But I feel like this helped my skin immensely and the results are instant.” —Kristyle

My Experience: Wow, plumping is the perfect word to describe this serum. I could notice the hydration and “glow” right away, and after a couple weeks I started to notice an overall brighter complexion than when I was using my old serum. Consider me sold.

Step Four: Nourishing Moisturizer

The Nourishing Moisturizer is meant to plump, hydrate, and promote dewy radiance. The key players here are collagen peptides, which work to nourish and soothe, hyaluronic acid in 3 different weights, and a powerful mushroom humectant that supports the skin barrier and microbiome. It’s also supposed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and give the skin a soft, supple look.

BeautyTap Expert Review: “This nourishing moisturizer is loaded with ingredients that heal the moisture barrier and nourish the skin’s microbiome, preventing breakouts before they start. So pleasant to use, this beauty soaks right into skin with a gel-like consistency—never greasy or sticky. Immediately after applying, my skin is left with a dewy glow, and while using regularly my skin looks plump and hydrated.” —Rachel

My Experience: Up until this point, Solabiome was 3 for 3. Aaaand make that 4 for 4. I absolutely loved this moisturizer for a lot of the same reasons as the other products—it just had this lightness to it, and my skin absorbs it right away. Previous moisturizers I’ve used have felt more like they were layered on, rather than soaked in. My skin has been looking fresh, supple, and glowy since I started using it regularly.

Just Wait ‘Til the Group Chat Hears About This…

If they thought I was annoying before, they’re not gonna be able to stand me now. The Solabiome line far and away exceeded my expectations—my skin has been so happy, so hydrated, so smooth… all of the things. And now that I’ve learned how important it is to protect and nourish your skin’s microbiome (and how Solawave does just that), it’s all I’ve been able to talk about.

I have to admit, I was shocked to see my Solabiome trial go so smoothly since so many products irritate my skin. I guess it has something to do with the products being so clean and free from harsh chemicals.

The Solabiome line is a super legitimate addition to an already wildly successful skincare brand. Revamp your whole routine or just try a couple products—with their 30-day guarantee there’s no reason to be shy about it.

See what it’s like to heal, plump, and hydrate your skin from the inside out with this skincare line. Soon you’ll be bugging your friends about how great it is, too.
