Thanks to Sans, the only space I can call my own in my city is cleaner than ever before.
I could wax poetic about the perks of New York City living all day long. But I’m not completely oblivious. People sacrifice a lot to be here, and a perfect example is my current apartment. Coming in at just over 480 feet, the only space that I can really call my own is neither wide nor open. But making my “apartment” a haven from the chaos outside is the best way I know to express gratitude and take care of myself.
One of those awesome city-living sacrifices I mentioned earlier: the air quality (or lack thereof). Just last year, the American Lung Association reported that over 22.5 million people living in the New York Metropolitan area are exposed to unhealthy air. Needless to say, I immediately began looking up the best air purifiers on the market after seeing that. After *hours* of review and comparison, I finally landed on the Sans’ website. I’m so glad I did.
What You Need to Know About Sans
First thing’s first: the origin story. Just like the rest of the world, Adam Bedford and John Fanelly found themselves spending a lot of time inside in 2020. You’ll remember that in those days, the threat of poor air quality and illness in the home loomed over everyone’s head more than ever before. It got them thinking – what’s the average indoor atmosphere like, and what is it missing? Turns out, a medical-grade air purification device that’s as silent as it is functional (one that people will actually want to have in their homes). With that, Sans was born.
Now, even doctors vouch for these guys, and it’s no surprise that they’ve become one of the most sought after air purification devices out there, landing features in publications like Forbes and Architectural Digest.
Sans’ Powerful Air Purifier, Made Mini
The bestselling original Air Purifier has enough power to purify up to 1560 square feet of space… in short, one purifier is enough for an entire home. But as we’ve established, my current living space is less than ⅓ of Sans’ range of coverage, so I decided to order their brand new Air Purifier Mini.
At 14-by-8 inches, the size is much more my speed, and doesn’t take up any more of my precious space than it needs to. It has a cleaning range of 490 square feet, which is *perfect* for my current situation. And the very best part? It truly is meditation-quiet and contains the same wildly impressive tech as its predecessor. Plus, the original model is $469, but the Mini is priced at $229 (way more aligned with my budget). Basically, I couldn’t say no.
My Life With Sans
Every Sans filter lasts for three months, and I reached that milestone for the first time just a few weeks ago. I cleaned my pre-filter maybe 3x in that time, but that was nothing compared to the satisfaction I got from removing the *entire* filter to see the fuzzy gray column it had turned into. I felt many emotions: disgust at the fact that I’d been breathing all of that gunk in until I met Sans. Relief that it was all trapped here, where I could see it, and not in my lungs. And excitement to install the next filter and keep the clean streak going.
My new Air Purifier does more than just make me happy, though. It keeps my entire apartment (all 480 square feet) way cleaner than before. I’m a neat freak and I used to dust every Sunday, but I’ve only had to dust once since I got my Sans. And one of the most satisfying things: on auto mode, it’ll adjust the intensity of filtration to match the air quality. For example, every time I blow out a candle, I can hear the purifier kick into high gear and suck all of the smoke out of the air. In these moments, the screen on top of the purifier displays a number declaring low air quality. It then returns to a normal level in the few minutes it takes for my Sans to clear the air of contaminants.
If You’re a Nerd Like Me, Here’s How It Works…
I didn’t do all of my research for nothing. Before buying, I knew that what ultimately sets Sans apart in the realm of air purification is their 3-step filter system. A pre-filter lays the groundwork for an effective clean by catching visible particles like dust and pet hair. Bonus: this filter can be hand-cleaned easily, with a paper towel, which means you can observe its efficiency first-hand when you change the filter (and wipe the grime from it).
Then comes the second layer, which is where “medical-grade” comes in. The HEPA-13 Filter is top-of-the-line in that it catches 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, and 99.95% of particles down to 0.1 microns. Of course I then had to investigate just how big microns are, and it turns out that any particles smaller than 35 microns is invisible without a microscope. So Sans catches nearly all of the essentially intangible particles from the air, pollutants, dander, and other harmful particles that we don’t even know we’re being exposed to. Did I mention that this filter is medical-grade?
The third step of filtration is an Activated Carbon filter, which is exactly what it sounds like: a bunch of Activated Carbon, which joins forces with a UV-C light to target odors and neutralize Volatile Organic Compounds in the air, like benzene, ethylene glycol, and formaldehyde. While the carbon in the Sans Air Purifier Mini nullifies these compounds, the UV-C light deactivates the DNA of certain harmful microorganisms so that they can’t reproduce, keeping you safe and your air high-quality.
