Yup, You Read That Right. Granola…Butter.
“Craving-crusher” may be a misnomer. At this point, my monthly subscription to Oat Haus’ blasphemously good (and nut-free) Granola Butter is more to satisfy an addiction than a craving.
Now, let’s backtrack a bit. The name doesn’t sound like it makes any sense. Granola: messy, crunchy oatmeal you eat on hikes or sprinkled on top of yogurt. Butter: creamy, delicious stuff you spread on toast or add gratuitously into a pasta dish. But granola…butter…kinda sounds like an AI-generated error.
My friends, I’m here to tell you that Oat Haus’ Vanilla Granola Butter is the most delicious thing that I’ve ever put in my dumb mouth. If your tastebuds have yet to be blessed with the sweet, delicious spread, allow me to enlighten you.
Oat Haus: The World’s 1st Oat Spread
It all started when Oat Haus founder Ali Bonar set out on a journey to heal her gut after a decade of restrictive eating. For many people who struggle with disordered eating, high-fat foods like nut butters are a big trigger. As Ali sought to re-introduce those “tough” foods back into her diet during her recovery, she discovered that her stomach couldn’t tolerate nuts and searched high and low for a comparable, nut-free spread.
It didn’t exist, so she made it herself using toasted oats in place of nuts. Spoiler alert: people loved it.
After hundreds of rounds of recipe testing, she launched Oat Haus in 2018 with her partners Eric Katz and Ari Schraer. Years later, the team have an appearance on Shark Tank, celebrity collaborations, a roster of delicious limited edition flavors, and a cross-country move to a bigger manufacturing facility under their belts, and they’re rolling full-steam ahead.
A One-Way Ticket to Flavortown
As a devoted subscription member, I’m constantly stalking the Oat Haus Instagram account for info on their limited edition flavor drops (each of which is more delicious than the last). I’ve fallen in love with every flavor, from S’mores to Cinnamon Roll, but as I mentioned before, the Vanilla flavor truly has my heart. There are usually around ten flavors to choose from, though. These are my top 5:
Original Granola Butter
My first taste of the Original flavor transported me instantly to the elementary school lunch table, crushing a Zip-Loc baggie full of Scooby Snacks graham crackers. I’ve read reviews that call this flavor “liquid Teddy Grahams.” Whichever team you’re on, the OG flavor tastes like cinnamon graham crackers, and it’s freaking delicious drizzled on ice cream…or straight into your mouth
Birthday Cake Granola Butter
When Oat Haus created this flavor, they were inspired by the boxed vanilla funfetti cake that we all swooned over when we were younger. Everything about the Birthday Cake Granola Butter is funfetti—but without that cringey overly-sweet-ness. There are even rainbow sprinkles mixed into every jar! I usually spoon a huge glob of this onto my morning oatmeal to make Mondays feel a bit less like Mondays.
Vanilla Granola Butter
The second this hits my tongue, I feel like I’ve walked into a room full of warm, freshly baked sugar cookies at my grandma’s house. But unlike grandma’s sugar cookies, the limit to the amount of Vanilla Granola Butter I can eat does not exist. While I enjoy the luscious, velvety texture of this one at room temp, I usually store this one in my fridge so I can eat by the spoonful like edible cookie dough.
Strawberry Shortcake Granola Butter
It seems nearly impossible to combine the distinct flavors of a multi-layered dessert into a spread, but that’s the magic of Oat Haus. There are vanilla undertones, fragrant strawberry notes, and a sweet finish to this Strawberry Shortcake Granola Butter. Bonus points for the fact that this flavor has freeze-dried strawberries in it, so I’m counting it as part of my 5-a-day.
Chocolate Granola Butter
The yin to vanilla’s yang, this flavor is (IMHO) a sleeper hit. More brownie batter than nutella, the Chocolate Granola Butter is simply divine. If you saw me dipping strawberries and pretzels into this one in the middle of the night—no you didn’t.
If You’re Not Already Drooling…
You need to head over to Oat Haus’ website to check out their mouth-watering flavors for yourself. A single jar is $12.95, but I would suggest building a box to save some moolah—and I’d go ahead and set up a subscription to save even more money, because that first order won’t last long.
