I Didn’t Think Travel Bottles Were Worth the Price Until These Classy Capsules Changed My Life

I resisted purchasing Cadence because of the price, but now I don’t know what I’d do without my set.

These TSA-Approved Capsules Have Me Wanting to Catch More Flights…

Beyond my singular suitcase, I have a hard time spending money on travel accessories. Maybe it’s because I’m still a teenager, just 23 years old, and I don’t find myself jet-setting very often. If the stars have aligned and I am going away, chances are I’ve already invested enough in the destination… Why would I make the travel process even more expensive?

Following my discovery of Cadence Capsules, I ate every one of these words. Turns out the founder and CEO, Steph Hon, is an innovator whose award-winning products have changed millions of lives in just three years—mine now included.

Enter: Life-Changing Cadence

To make a long and beautiful story short, Cadence is a second generation AAPI owned and female-led company who makes leakproof, travel-friendly, and TSA-approved capsules.

Steph Hon was a classic New York City resident, driven and busy beyond belief. Running all over town, she found herself wishing there was an easier way to bring her essentials along. Then, she made it happen.

Steph’s handiwork was deliberate and extensive—she and her team workshopped over 200 prototypes before they patented their hero product, the Original Capsules, which went on to be a TIME’s Best Invention of 2022. Since then, the team has totally upgraded the Capsules, releasing the Flex System with larger sizes just a few months ago…and I got my hands on them to see if they’re worth the price and the hype (and they definitely are).

Cadence Just Keeps Getting Better

Cadence’s Original Capsules were recently joined by a new line called the Flex Capsule System. This set has all of the same benefits as the first… plus a larger storage capacity:

  • Leakproof
  • Magnetic
  • Durable
  • TSA-approved
  • Sustainable
  • Range of sizes from 0.56 to 2.75oz (as opposed to just 0.56oz)
  • Multiple colorways

The Flex System opens the door to use for longer trips, because you can bring even more product along. They even added an extender which adds 1.43oz to any capsule, making them the perfect TSA-approved size for things like shampoo and conditioner.

The Cost of Cadence

The Flex System starts at $98, which initially made my wallet groan. I quickly realized, though, that (a) in light of Cadence’s quality, the price is fair, and (b) they have a first-time customer offer where you can get 15% off all orders over $125.

When my Cadence shipment arrived, any remaining doubt evaporated as I took in the rows of modular cases, nestled together like honeycomb

The Go-To I Never Knew I Needed

Sizing up the containers, I could easily see my entire routine fitting seamlessly into the storage system—and looking beautiful while doing so. I chose a shade called Eucalyptus, a hue even vibier in person than it appears online (think Emma Chamberlain’s kitchen meets deep sage).

Cadence offers sets of interchangeable, magnetic label tiles, plus the option to completely personalize every set. As condensed or complex as your regimen may be, Cadence makes sure no product gets left behind. The flexibility of labels also means that your collection can change in real time. If you swap one step or product for another, you can adjust your capsules without having to buy an entirely new system.

I’ve finally been convinced to use toner and sunscreen everyday, but I caved only after having ordered my Capsules. Instead of buying differently labeled containers, I’m planning on snagging two of the Cadence tiles (just $6 each!). I’m even leaning toward a different color for them (maybe Petal or Sand) to switch up my set.

Saving the Earth, One Capsule at a Time

Cadence is known for longevity. I’m learning that this refers not only to the quality of the capsules, which are designed to last a lifetime, but also to their role on the planet. To minimize their own waste, Cadence reuses plastic scraps from previous rounds of production. Even more impressively, they partner with Envision Plastics to pluck plastic directly from polluted beaches. One fifth of every capsule is made from plastic that was once stranded along the coast.

The environmental efficacy of Cadence doesn’t stop at the product. The entire box can be recycled, and each shipment includes seed paper. I’m a sucker for packaging, so this detail really got me: when planted, every sheet blooms into wildflowers.

Keeping My Cadence (Literally)

Do they cost more than the nondescript pharmacy travel-size bottles I’ve bought and thrown away probably ten times now? Definitely. But unlike the others, I plan on keeping my Cadence Capsules around for a long time–I even bought more sets for my purses and bathroom. I have at least one in every tote bag I own, and I’ve even lent a few to my closest (most trustworthy) friends.

Modern life is eventful enough—I’m realizing that no one needs to board a plane to be “on the go” (although all planes welcome Cadence products). Everyday is an adventure for which one might need a portable face wash. Why take the risk of not being ready?
