PSA: Non-Alcoholic Drinks No Longer Suck

I remember a time when the only no-alcohol option at a bar was a bitters and lime soda or a Coke. Sober January used to get boring reallll quick, but now, things have completely changed. There’s a new class of non-alcoholic spirits on the market, and they’re sophisticated, refined, and fun—like high-end cocktails without the booze.

These new alcohol-free options make not drinking a way more appealing option, and now that I’ve cruised right along into my mid-thirties, I’m reaching for these options more often than not when I feel like socializing. All of the flavor with no hangover and less calories? Don’t mind if I do…

If you’re looking for options to cut down on your alcohol intake, you’ve come to the right place. These five zero-proof drinks are on repeat in my household, and they’re about to be in yours too.

5. Leitz: Eins Zwei Zero Sparkling Riesling

This is a sparkling white wine with a nice, dry finish—and the perfect accompaniment to any meal. It’s crisp, clean, and has prominent notes of citrus, rhubarb, and tarragon. The first time I tried it, I had to do a double-take to make sure it was, in fact, alcohol-free. If bubbly is your guilty pleasure, Eins Zwei Zero Sparkling Reisling is going to be your new favorite drink.

4. Sovi: Reserve Red

Sovi has made one of the few zero-proof reds that are worth drinking. It’s dry and rich, with notes of black raspberry, dark cherry, and warm spices. Rustic tannins lead to a long finish. It’s a great choice for Cabernet lovers and goes well with many foods. The Reserve Red is made from 100% certified sustainable Tempranillo grapes grown in Clarksburg (AVA) in California.

3. ISH: Non-Alcoholic Spritz

Like an Aperol Spritz in a can, but without the booze. The Non-Alcoholic Spritz from ISH is 100% my drink of the summer. It’s got tons of fresh citrus flavor, balanced out with nice herbal notes. I’ll drink one of these babies over ice with a slice of orange, or right out of the can if it’s well-chilled. This is a (non-alcoholic) cocktail that anyone will enjoy.

2. Lyre: Amalfi Spritz

Did someone say vacation? One sip of this refreshing, sparkling Amalfi Spritz transports me to the Italian coastline. Lyre’s Amalfi Spritz is a delicious combination of bittersweet, citrusy, and sweet. For those who aren’t as partial to spritzes, Lyre also has Classico and G&T flavors available.

1. Avec: Sparkling Mixers

I saved the best for last. Avec’s Sparkling Mixers are my everyday drink, great for easy sipping or for mixing with non-alcoholic tequilas and gins (or alcoholic ones, of course). Avec has numerous flavors to choose from, so there’s really something for everyone. I’m partial to Yuzu & Lime, Hibiscus Pomegranate, and Jalapeño & Blood Orange, but you really can’t go wrong with any flavor.

Although I do still love a nice Old Fashioned or IPA, I always have these drinks stocked up in my fridge for when I’m feeling like treating myself to a little something to unwind after work…but without the hangover. If you’re looking for an alcohol-free way to enjoy a delicious cocktail, I urge you to try out some of these zero proof drinks!
